Alright everyone, here is the funny story that got me 7.5 for my presentation. Just a quick warning..this story can only be understood by aussies or people who had contact with the Australian culture. =)

Here goes....

There is this man who migrated to Australia not too long ago and got a job as an engineer. He goes to work everyday like every diligent worker and being new to this country, he had no clue as to what the Australian culture is like. So, one day he came up to me and said, I'm feeling very depressed and sad. I went 'what happened?' and he said that his work colleagues don't care about him. Being very curious, I then asked him why did he say so. He then said that everyday at work, his work colleagues would come up to him and say 'Hey! How are ya?' and before he could say more about his life, his colleagues would just walk away.

Coming from an Asian background, it is common for one to talk about their day or even the interesting things they have done when someone else asks 'how are ya'. However in the Australian culture, 'Hi, how are ya?' this phrase is nothing more than a simple HI! The moral of this story is that not everyone cares how is your day and it is very important to understand the culture of the locals before one starts living in a different community =)

p.s. this is a true story =)
